“Bellingham Tower this is BRAVO 369 ready for departure..” “BRAVO 369, you are cleared for takeoff runway one-six.” “Cleared for takeoff runway one-six…BRAVO 369”….
The rest will become part of aviation history and you are invited to participate. Anyone using Microsoft Flight Simulator X ™ and Google Earth™ will be able to fly along with Jeff Geer and the Boeing PT-13 Stearman to Provideniya, Russia in real time and actually be a part of this historic flight. Departing Bellingham, Washington Jeff Geer will pilot a 1943 Boeing PT-13 Stearman to Provideniya, Russia along the “Lend-Lease” Northern Air Route established during WWII. From 1942-1945 the courageous service men and women of the US Army Air Force 7th Ferrying Squadron used this route to deliver military aircraft and provisions to our allies in Canada and the former Soviet Union.
Flying east to Great Falls, Montana, the staging base for the Lend-Lease flights, Jeff will push northward though Alberta, northern British Columbia following the Alaska Highway through the Yukon. He will then continue to Fairbanks, Alaska, his final Alaskan destination being Nome. Departing Nome, Jeff will then begin his 255 nautical mile flight to Provideniya, Russia on Air Route B-369 (BRAVO-369). After crossing the International Date Line, the flight will become historically significant in that he will have become the first pilot to have flown on this route to Provideniya from the lower 48 States in a Stearman. The total round-trip distance will be approximately 6,000 statute miles.
